Why we don't use vehicle registrations to quote from...
We don’t use vehicle registrations to provide towbar quotes.
Why?
Well, whilst vehicle databases provided by the DVLA and DVSA are incredibly accurate for information such as the mot details, number plate changes, ownership changes etc.
The actual factory build information held on these databases comes from the vehicle’s original V5 which is provided by the vehicle manufacturer or their dealer network. Unfortunately, this information can occasionally be prone to errors, for example an incorrect model, engine, transmission, variant or chassis type.
We know this from experience as several of the Towzone team have worked within the dealer networks of several of the largest manufacturers for many years and know its foibles.
This is why we decided to use a “belt and braces” approach to minimise quotation and installation errors by using the vehicle database as our secondary identifier rather than the primary, like so:
- We ask you to select the variant and year of your vehicle to build your quote.
- On the checkout page, we will ask for your vehicle registration.
- Your LocalPRO installer will cross-check the two to ensure that your order (and most importantly, your towbar!) is correct.
It’s simple, it works… and it’s these little details that we believe make us just that little bit better than the rest!

Whilst we don’t use a number plate search as our primary identifier to build quotes it doesn’t mean that the information held on these databases isn’t useful.
Indeed to the contrary, so much of the information held on these databases is really important and quite frankly isn’t available widely enough.
This is why we decided to go several steps further and provide our users with the facility to be able to get a FULL check from the DVLA and DVSA on their vehicle for FREE!
The report is brought to you in partnership with Rapid Car Check and provides a wide range of information held on the official vehicle databases including vehicle type, MOT history, mileage and tax information.
This level of report would normally cost between £2 to £5 online but you can access it from the Towzone Configurator for FREE.
